Patna: The Bihar government has launched the Makhana Development Scheme to boost production, strengthen marketing, and double farmers’ income by promoting large-scale cultivation of makhana (fox nut), also known as “white gold.” The initiative aims to modernise farming practices and enhance Bihar’s dominance as the largest producer of makhana in India. Focus on Higher Production and Farmer Income Growth The scheme is designed to: Increase makhana production Provide improved seeds and modern farming techniques Replace traditional tools with advanced equipment Strengthen processing and value addition Double farmers’ income through better productivity and pricing The initiative will especially benefit farmers in regions like Kosi, Mithilanchal, and Seemanchal.
