The poor performance of Muslim candidates in UPSC CSE has continued this year. In UPSC CSE 2022 only 29 made it into the list which is just 3.10% of total success in this exam. Last year the success percentage muslim was 3.64 which the lowest in the decade. This year it has been even lower. Let it be noted that this year 933 candidates were successful with four girls trapping the top positions. Ishita Kishore was the topper followed by Garima Lohia and Uma Harathi N on AIR 2 and AIR 3. Whereas among muslims candidates Waseem Ahmad Bhatt secured top rank with AIR 7
PERCENTAGE OF MUSLIM IN UPSC CSE
The number of Muslims among successful candidates in UPSC CSE has consistently been low. While the community comprises around 18% of the total population but their representation in civil services has been 5-6 % and in the previous years it has come down to 3-4% only.
Previous year the success percent was 3.64 while in 2020, it was 4%. In 2019 UPSC CSE 829 candidates made it into the final list out of which 44 were muslims. It is the highest since 2016 to this year.
ONLY SIX WILL BE IAS
While 29 muslims has been selected by the UPSC but only six might join IAS. The number can vary based on preferences specified by the recommended candidates and the fulfillment of service eligibility criteria. In UPSC CSE 2021 and 2020 the number of IAS were three and eight respectively.
