- Panel of Prominent Ex Judges, Senior IAS-IPS Officers to Independently Probe Delhi Riots
In the view of the horrific Delhi Riots which took place in February 2020, the Constitutional Conduct Group (CCG) has formed a committee of six former public functionaries of high standing to make a contemporary record of what transpired before, during and after the Delhi riots.
The committee called “Citizens Committee” comprises of former Chief Justice of the Madras and Delhi high courts and former chairman, Law Commission Justice A.P. Shah, former Supreme Court judge Justice Madan Lokur, a former judge of the Delhi high court Justice R.S. Sodhi, former Union home secretary G.K. Pillai, a former judge of the Patna high court Justice Anjana Prakash, and former director-general of the Bureau of Police Research and Development Meeran Chadha Borwankar.
The CCG body stated that after the horrific riots which took place earlier this year, it is in need to be examined by a expert body. The loss of lives, amount of violence, destruction of properties and the communal division between two communities has led the committee to probe into the matter.
It is said that the committee will be following its own procedures and will be submitting a final report within 12 weeks from starting the investigation.
