IAS Officer Who Worked in Mills & Slept on Platforms 

UPSC preparation is the path of a huge struggle. Every successful aspirants get the destination only after passing through this path. Similar is the story of IAS M Sivaguru Prabakaran.

2018 batch IAS officer M Sivaguru Prabakaran's life is full of struggle. He is inspiration to Civil Service aspirants. He cracked UPSC CSE exam in 2017 and secured 101st rank. 

He hails from Tanjore, Tamil Nadu. Born to a family of farmers, they were doing hard to make their ends meet as his father was dealing with alcoholism and not able to earn anything.

Seeing the struggle of his mother and sister, he too started working in a mill. He leaved his studies and started working as a sawmill operator.

Whatever money he could earn, he spent some on family and saved some for education. But he did not let go of his dreams.

After his sister marriage, he again started studying in 2008. He completed his civil engineering degree from Thanthai Periyar Government College, Vellore.

After graduation, Sivaguru decided to studying at IIT-Madras and started praparing for the entrance examinations. One of his friends informed him about a teacher teaching poor children at St. Thomas station. 

It was tough for him to studied during the weekend and took shelter at the platforms of the St Thomas Mount railway station. He would then return to Vellore for his college during the week and worked part-time to support himself.

But his hard work & consistency fulfilled his dreams as he successfully cracked the IIT-M entrance. He finished his M.Tech program with a top rank in 2014.

After M.tech Prabhakaran decided to pursue this dream of becoming an IAS. He was unable to clear the UPSC exam in his first three attempts. But, failure never distract him from his goal. He cracked the UPSC exams in his 4th attempt & becomes UAS.
