Getting selected in IAS or IPS service is a dream many cherish but only a few manage to fulfill. Toppers of class 10th and 12th may have some time at hand before they can take the UPSC test, but Mahoba District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police helped them realise their dream for a day.
The famous old Bollywood movie Nayak starring Anil Kapoor was brought to real life when the DM Mahoba started an initiative of making the district’s school toppers, the DM for a day. At a growing age when children choose a career stream, it’s everybody’s dream to sit in a position of power like that of a DM. Many children also look up to people like police officers or administrators hoping to walk in their footsteps one day.
The initiative brought back memories of the old Bollywood blockbuster in which Anil Kapoor bring down a class of corrupt people so much so that the public demanded to make him a full-time Chief Minister. However, here in Mahoba, the children are getting such an opportunity to learn something out of the box and experience the working of a District Magistrate practically.
COLLECTOR FOR A DAY
While speaking to Indian Masterminds, DM Mahoba Manoj Kumar Singh said, “We called upon 10 children who emerged as the toppers from the district in UP Board class 12 examination. As they were able to score well in their school exams, we wanted to guide them in the right direction for their future in which they will pursue their different professions. We planned making them the DM for the day and making them experience the working of a DM.”
Mr. Singh also shared a picture of the District Topper Komal Singh in which she is sitting on the DM’s chair and all other students and administration officers are surrounding her. The tweet read, “UP Board District Topper Komal made DM for a day. She pledged to work hard for women empowerment and inspire other girls to do the same.”
The students visited the Collectorate and acknowledged all the departments and how work is done for the betterment of the people of the district. Moreover, an interactive session was organised where students had a chance to communicate with the Collector directly and ask questions related to their studies, future, and their interests.
Mr. Manoj said, “At this age, students are pretty much stuck with what they want to do in life. They look up to people like us and want to become someone like us in the future. The interaction was very good and moreover, they got to know about real decision-making by sitting on the DMs seat. We will continue such an initiative and not only the toppers, but we will also call upon other students who are average in studies.”
SP FOR A DAY
Under the Mission Shakti program run by the government of Uttar Pradesh, the superintendent of police in Mahoba, Sudha Singh, honored the meritorious girl students who got the best marks in the district and presented mementos to them. She even spoke to their families and gave best wishes for their bright future.
In this sequence, in order to encourage the meritorious girl students, the top-ranked girls in class 12- Komal, Muskaan Kaushal, Shilpi, and Nancy Shivhare were made the captain of the day respectively by the Superintendent of Police Mahoba. In this, these girl students took up the problems of the complainants seriously.
Ms. Sudha said, “I interacted with all the girls and motivated them to pursue a career of their interest in the future. I even asked them about their goals in life and gave tips on how to achieve them. They were also given a tour of the police headquarters and were explained how to tackle various queries.”
On this occasion, Additional Superintendent of Police Mahoba, RK Gautam, Circle Officer Sadar Shri Rampravesh Rai, Trainee Circle Officer Harshita Gangwar, and esteemed girls, 12th Topper- Komal, Muskaan Kaushal, Shilpi, Nancy Shivhare and 10th Topper- Ashi Yadav, Anshita Richaria, Bhawna Goswami along with their parents were present.
Through this initiative, both the DM and SP became the guardians of the students and gave them a practical experience of how things work if they manage to clear the UPSC exam and become an IAS or IPS officer. The feeling of sitting in a DM or SPs position is indeed an amazing feeling in itself and the students of Mohaba are lucky enough to experience it firsthand.
