In the heart of Chhattisgarh’s Raipur district lies a village that has defied convention and embraced the digital age like no other – Tulsi, often referred to as the “YouTuber Village.” With nearly one-third of its population venturing into the realm of content creation on YouTube, this community has not only transformed their lives but also ignited an economic revolution that is reverberating throughout the region.
Speaking to Indian Masterminds, 2011 batch IAS officer Dr. Sarveshwar Bhure, who is the District Collector of Raipur, shared details about Chhattisgarh’s first state-of-the-art studio in Tulsi village.
HUMMER FLIX
Recognizing the immense potential and creativity of Tulsi’s residents, the Raipur district administration, led by District Collector Dr. Sarveshwar Bhure, is taking pioneering steps to empower these young creators. Dr. Bhure remarked, “We are establishing cutting-edge studios and digital setups to enhance their skills, enabling them to create high-quality content and monetize their creativity. Notably, we’ve opened ‘Hummer Flix,’ the state’s first state-of-the-art studio, exclusively for Tulsi’s social media content creators.”
COLLABORATION
But it doesn’t stop at just providing infrastructure. The district administration is fostering collaboration between these budding social media influencers and experienced mentors from the digital world. Dr. Bhure emphasized, “These influencers are not just trend amplifiers; they serve as mentors, guiding our young minds towards constructive pathways, solidifying Raipur’s reputation as a beacon of innovation in Chhattisgarh.”
HIDDEN TALENT
Tulsi’s transformation serves as a powerful demonstration to the potential hidden talents within rural areas, proving that progress isn’t confined to urban centres only. From 15-year-olds to 85-year-old grandmothers, individuals of all ages in Tulsi have hopped onto the YouTube bandwagon, creating and sharing videos that reflect their unique talents and interests. Thanks to the swift action of the district administration in opening the studio, villagers no longer need to travel to Raipur for video editing; instead fostering creativity in their own backyard.
With 40 youths working as YouTubers in Tulsi, they have collectively amassed more than 10 lakh followers and garnered over 30 million views on their videos. This is an evidence of the incredible talent within the village communities and a source of immense pride for the entire village.
DIGITAL SKILL CENTRE
Looking ahead, the district administration is committed to establishing a digital skill centre in Tulsi, funded by DMF (District Mineral Foundation), to teach essential skills such as digital marketing, graphic design, and SEO to youth associated with YouTube and other social media platforms.
Tulsi village’s journey from a rural landscape to a ‘YouTuber Village’ showcases the transformative power of digital platforms and the proactive role of the government in empowering its youth. This is a story of empowerment, innovation, and progress that will undoubtedly have a ripple effect, propelling not only the capital district but also the entire state into a brighter and more prosperous future.
CONTENT CREATOR GROUP
Furthermore, within Tulsi, various content creator groups have emerged, each focusing on distinct aspects of content creation. For instance, there is a group dedicated to showcasing Ramleela acts, displaying their skills and talents to the public. A skill centre has been set up to enhance these creators’ abilities and inspire them to explore more innovative ideas.
The diversity of content in Tulsi is striking, with groups concentrating on Bollywood-style productions, comedy sketches, and content primarily in the Chhattisgarhi language. This diversity ensures that there’s something for everyone among Tulsi’s digital offerings.
The officer further informed Indian Masterminds that one noteworthy recent development was the creation of a rap song related to elections by the village’s youth. “This innovative content not only went viral but also demonstrated the collaborative spirit between the youth and the local administration in generating fresh, engaging content,” he added.
ENTHUSIASM
Tales of transformation abound in Tulsi. What was once a village of artists has now become a hub of digital content creators. For example, a young boy named Abhishek has established his own studio, illustrating how people are motivating each other to become content creators. Even a 56-year-old poet is gearing up to start a podcast, highlighting the village’s growing interest in content creation across all age groups.
More importantly, content creation isn’t the sole source of income for Tulsi’s residents. They explore various other fields to generate income while also expanding their revenue streams through content creation.
FUTURE PLAN
Looking forward, Tulsi’s future plans include creating more job opportunities in the digital field, establishing additional skill centres in the village, and further advancing its digitalization efforts. This village, once hidden in the heart of Chhattisgarh, has now emerged as a beacon of hope and inspiration for rural communities nationwide, proving that innovation and progress know no boundaries.
