UPSC CSE 2023: After 2 Years, Men Bag Top 2 Ranks, While Women Shine in 10 of Top 25 

Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), on Tuesday, declared the results of Civil Services Exam-2023. A total of 1016 candidates were selected this year, which includes 664 men and 352 women. Last year, a total of 933 candidates were selected, which included 613 men and 320 women. This year, a total of 240 candidate were put in the reserve list.

After a gap of two years, a male candidate became the topper of the exam.  This year, three men secured positions in the top five. Aditya Srivastava has secured the first position while Donuru Ananya Reddy became the female topper by bagging AIR 3.

Last year, four out five toppers were women, but this year, only two could secure positions in top 10. Ten women bagged positions among the top 25 of UPSC CSE 2023. In UPSC CSE 2022, the top 25 candidates comprised of 14 women and 11 men.

IPS TRAINEES TOP THE LIST

Out of the five toppers this year, three are currently under training in the National Police Academy, Hyderabad, which includes AIR 1 Mr. Aditya Srivastava, AIR 4 Mr. P K Siddharth Ramkumar and AIR 5 Ms. Ruhani. Whereas 12 out of the top 20 are from engineering background.

In UPSC CSE 2023, 347 candidates from General, 115 from EWS, 303 from OBC, 165 from SC and 86 from ST category were able to secure their names in the final list. Also, a total of 30 Persons with Disability got into the UPSC CSE while in UPSC CSE 2022, 41 candidates with Benchmark Disability secured ranks. 

Among the top 10 UPSC toppers, a Muslim candidate, Ms. Nausheen, has earned a spot at AIR 9. Out of the 1,016 successful candidates, approximately 50 are from the Muslim community. Last year, only 29 candidates from the community could clear the exam. 

SERVICES

The results also revealed that a total of 180 candidates have been selected for the prestigious Indian Administrative Service (IAS), while 200 candidates have been chosen for the Indian Police Service (IPS). Additionally, 37 candidates have been selected for the Indian Foreign Service (IFS), with 613 candidates securing Grade A posts and 113 candidates securing Grade B posts within the Central government.

STATE WISE TOPPERS 

This year the topper Mr. Aditya Srivastava hails from Lucknow. While AIR 2 Mr. Animesh Pradhan and AIR 3 Ms. Donuru Ananya Reddy are from Odisha and Telangana respectively. 

AIR 5 Ms. Ruhani became the topper from Haryana while PK Siddharth Ramkumar is the topper from Kerala. Anshul Bhatt who has secured All India Rank 22 in the Coveted Civil Service Exam 2023 is the topper from Uttarakhand. Whereas, Shivam Kumar Tibrewal who hails from Bihar has secured an impressive 19th rank across India and became state topper. 

Ayan Jain has secured All India Rank 16 in the UPSC Civil Service Final Result 2023 and became the topper from Madhya Pradesh. As per media reports, this year, 28 candidates from Karnataka successfully passed the Civil Services (Mains) Examination 2023, with Soubhagya S. Beelagimath ranking as the top performer from the state with an All India Rank (AIR) of 101.

Besides that, 25 candidates from Gujarat also made it to the final list, Vishnu Sasikumar from Vapi in Valsad secured the top rank 31 and became state topper.

SUBJECT WISE 

Unlike the earlier trend this year’s topper Mr. Aditya Srivastava has chosen electrical engineering as an optional. Whereas, Ms. Ishita Kishore who was topper of UPSC CSE 2022 had Political Science and International Relation as her optional. Shruti Sharma bagged AIR 1 in UPSC CSE 2021 with History as the optional. Besides that six candidates who secured top ranks in this exam chose Sociology as their optional.

Educational qualifications of top 25 successful candidates range from graduation in Engineering; Humanities; Science; Commerce; Business Administration; Architecture, Law from premier Institutions of the country such as IIT, IIM, NIT, University of Delhi, National Law University etc.
