A beautification project of the Karnal Smart City Limited on a stretch of 3.8 km green belt along both sides of the national highway is set to turn it into a people-friendly hangout. Numerous facilities like jogging tracks, pathways, open-air theatre, seating arrangement, Wi-Fi facility, open-air gym, reflexology park and congregation stage are being added to it to engage the public.
Green belts are planned open spaces safeguarded from developmental activities such as construction of buildings, factories, dams, etc. Therefore, these areas are only used for growing vegetation cover on it.
Deputy Commissioner and CEO of Karnal Smart City Limited, Nishant Yadav, recently inspected the work and instructed the construction agency to expedite it. Indian Masterminds caught up with the officer and asked him about the beautification drive.
REDEVELOPMENT WORK
Mr. Nishant Yadav said, “Prior to this project, there were only simple pedestrian paths where people used to walk. As no constructional activities can take place in this area, we planned on taking up this beautification project and adding public facilities which would create more involvement of people.”
Under this project, the Smart City of Karnal is planning on building jogging tracks, pathways, open-air theatre, seating arrangement, Wi-Fi facility, open-air gym, brick and paver block, toilets and lighting, etc. Not only this, but a reflexology park is also being built in Park No. 3 and 4 of Sector-6. In this, people can activate/heal their body parts with stones, sand, gravel, grass and water laid on the surface.
A Congregation Stage is being set up in the Green Belt Park of Sector-13, in which 50 people can sit together and talk. Apart from this, benches for seating will be installed in all the parks.
INSPECTION
The Deputy Commissioner walked around and inspected each park. During the inspection, Mr. Yadav instructed the construction agency to put at least 20 benches in each park, specifying that the distance between them should be 30 to 40 meters.
He said that the Sector-13 Green Belt, which extends up to Nirmal Kutiya, a one-kilometer-long path, will be made and will connect one park to another. He also mentioned that security arrangements would be made in the parks along with lighting arrangements.
After overseeing the ongoing work at the sites, the officer said, “The project which is estimated at Rs 3 crore is almost halfway complete, and by the end of March this year, it will be up and running.”
