Recognized throughout the country for its rich wildlife and sprawling landscapes, the heartland state of Madhya Pradesh has become a haven for wildlife enthusiasts and adventure seekers alike. As the calendar turns to December 17, 2023, a new chapter in Madhya Pradesh’s wildlife narrative unfolds with the much-anticipated inaugural Kuno Forest Festival.

Nestled just 4-5 km from the renowned Kuno National Park, this five-day extravaganza promises to be a one-of-a-kind event, unlocking fresh opportunities for visitors to immerse themselves in the untamed beauty that lies within the lush forests. From thrilling safaris to luxurious camping experiences, the festival is poised to showcase the best of nature’s aura and charm, inviting explorers from far and wide.

UNVEILING THE WILD SYMPHONY

The beating heart of the Kuno National Park, home to a diverse array of wildlife including cheetahs, leopards, jungle cats, sloth bears, and an array of vibrant bird species, sets the stage for a truly immersive experience.

Speaking to Indian Masterminds, senior IAS officer Sheo Shekhar Shukla, Principal Secretary, Madhya Pradesh Tourism, said that Kuno National Park near Gwalior which otherwise is a beautiful natural reserve suddenly got international attention because of a very ambitious and one-of-its-kind Cheetah relocation project of Govt of India.

“This project is a symbol of our considered and renewed interest in wildlife conservation. This also provides us with a huge opportunity to bring in the world’s focus on responsible tourism, especially when it comes to wildlife and wilderness,” he added.

So, while providing an immersive experience of an offbeat destination in a glamorous camping tent city, they have curated multiple offerings around tribal/rural/heritage/adventure/culture/nature and wildlife tourism.

For those who have yet to experience the thrill of a safari, the Kuno Forest Festival is the perfect initiation. Visitors will have the rare opportunity to step inside the jungle, where the serenity of nature blends seamlessly with the excitement of spotting wild animals in their natural habitat.

VISION OF TRANQUIL TRANSFORMATION

The development project aims to elevate the festival’s venue into a coveted tourist attraction within the state, ensuring a seamless fusion of adventure and luxury.
The blueprint for this metamorphosis includes experiences that go beyond traditional wildlife encounters.

There will be cultural programs and activities to promote local art and culture at the Kuno Festival. Tourists can enjoy exciting activities like hot air ballooning, paramotoring, horse riding, air gun shooting and other recreational activities in this festival.

“Our aim is to develop new enchanting destinations both for discerning travelers as well as for community empowerment,” Mr. Shukla shared. The festival’s visionaries are crafting an environment that not only celebrates the existing beauty of the region but also introduces novel ways to appreciate the magnificence of Madhya Pradesh’s wildlife.

A UNIQUE ODYSSEY

As the curtain rises on the first-ever edition of the Kuno Forest Festival, anticipation fills the air. This promises to be a unique experience for every visitor, especially for those who harbor a deep-seated passion for wildlife. The festival is not merely an event; it’s a celebration of nature’s wonders, an invitation to witness the grandeur of the wild, and an opportunity to forge unforgettable connections with the untamed heart of Madhya Pradesh.

“We have been successfully roping in the community to engage tourists to taste the flavor of local art/craft/cuisine and culture. This model has democratized the benefits of tourism and economic development. This is a win-win situation for all and we take pride in being the first mover to roll out such a model,” Mr. Shukla said in conclusion.

So, as December 17, 2023 draws near, mark your calendars and prepare to embark on a wild odyssey at the Kuno Forest Festival – where the thrill of adventure and the serenity of nature converge in perfect harmony.
