Meet Aravind Banavath, an engineer with tribal background, who with his hard work and will power cleared UPSC CSE 2021 in his third attempt with flying colors.

AIR 623

Born in a small village from a tribal background in Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh, Aravind Banavath scored AIR 623 in his third attempt in the prestigious Civil Services Exam 2021 conducted by Union Public Service Commission all over the country. He gives his success credit to his father who supported him constantly and never lost hope.

Aravind is a final year MA student at the Department of Sociology at the University of Hyderabad. He did his graduation from Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology (MNNIT), Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh.

CSE PREPARATION

Aravind Banavath started his preparation for UPSC during his under graduation. He was always inclined towards doing things that are hard to accomplish. And to accomplish his individualistic career growth in CSE, Aravind shifted to Delhi to continue his CSE preparation with sheer hard work and determination.

This was Aravind’s third attempt. He told media that he was not well versed in Mathematics, so he could not crack Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT) in his first attempt.

He chose philosophy as his optional subject. “The biggest challenge was preparing for optional subject as there are not many sources available for philosophy,” says Aravind.

While sharing about how he prepared for the exam, Aravind Banavath said, “It is important to have clarity of concepts before launching into preparation. Clarity and Consistency are the key factors that help clear the exam.” He told media that he is deeply influenced by the philosophical teachings of Dr. B R Ambedkar.

ADVICE FOR ASPIRANTS

Asked about his advice to students preparing for the UPSC, Aravind said, “Newspaper is something you cannot miss. Do not treat this as any other exam. This exam is about building personality. It checks character and ability to think independently.”

Being from a tribal background Aravind always felt it would be wrong of him to choose a self-centered career, especially when considering country’s myriad problems today. Nevertheless, he succeeded in this exam with flying colors.

Aravind Banavath thanks his university for supporting him to continue his preparation amidst his master degree. He says, “I has plan to pursue inter-disciplinary research in sociology and philosophy if I had not made to the list of UPSC CSE. My university taught me how to manage time productively.”
