Reasons for opting for civil services as a career may vary from person to person. Some join the service because of the power, prestige and comforts it brings with it, some join it because of the challenges it offers to excel more in life and earn money, adulation and fame, while some join it because it offers a platform to serve people and impact society at large. 1982-batch UP cadre IAS officer Rohit Nandan falls in the last category. Mr. Nandan has now retired, but he has his illustrious career, in which he was able to touch and impact lives, to satisfactorily look back on.
He served in various positions in Uttar Pradesh and the Union government. From being the Secretary of Disable Welfare and Secretary, Skill Development in UP to the CMD of Air-India, he made his presence felt and left his mark with thoughtful interventions and campaigns that always had public welfare as its vision.
In this exclusive video interview to Indian Masterminds, he nostalgically recounts highlights of his career and, also, frankly voices his opinion on several topics related to the bureaucracy.
