In a major push to improve road connectivity in Bihar, an 18-kilometre stretch connecting Bhagalpur to Jharkhand is set to be widened from two lanes to four lanes, easing traffic congestion and enhancing inter-state travel.
Forest Clearance Awaited as Project Nears Take-Off
The ambitious project, covering the Agarpur–Kotwali Road, is currently awaiting forest clearance. The Road Construction Department (RCD) has already applied through the forest department’s official portal to secure the required No Objection Certificate (NOC).
Officials said around 1.5 km of the total stretch falls under forest land. Once clearance is granted, funds will be deposited, and the tendering process will be finalised.

₹100 Crore Project with Strategic Importance
The road expansion project is estimated to cost around ₹100 crore. Once completed, the route connecting Bhagalpur to Jharkhand via Sanhola will become significantly more accessible.
The upgraded road will provide direct connectivity to Mehagama, further linking to key locations such as Hansdiha and beyond.
Relief from Traffic Congestion
Currently, the two-lane road frequently witnesses traffic jams due to heavy vehicular movement and poor road conditions.
The proposed four-lane expansion is expected to streamline traffic flow, making it easier for heavy vehicles and passenger buses to operate efficiently, thereby reducing travel time.
Economic Growth and Faster Mobility
Officials believe that the improved road infrastructure will not only ease commuting but also accelerate economic activities in the region by enhancing trade and connectivity.
Preparatory work for the tender process has already begun, ensuring that construction can commence immediately after forest clearance is granted.
