Authorities of a private bank in Gurugram have been booked for allegedly harassing an IPS officer by delaying the handover of loan closure documents and property papers far beyond the stipulated timeline, police said.
FIR Filed Over Delay in Loan Closure Process
An FIR was registered at the Sector-14 Police Station under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including criminal breach of trust and criminal conspiracy.
The complaint was filed by Sub-Inspector Sunil Kumar, who serves as the “reader” to the IPS officer.

Alleged 50-Day Delay Against 10-Day Norm
According to the complaint, bank officials at branches in Sector 15 Part-I and Sector 14 delayed issuing the loan closure letter and returning the mortgaged property deed by over 50 days, despite a standard timeline of 10 days.
The delay reportedly disrupted the disbursal process at another bank where the loan had been transferred.
Loan Transfer and Document Handover Dispute
Police said the IPS officer, a Deputy Inspector General in the Haryana cadre, along with her spouse, an IAS officer, had taken a loan against an immovable property about four years ago.
After partially repaying the loan, the remaining amount was transferred to a public sector bank earlier this year, requiring the private bank to issue a closure letter and return the property documents.
Complaint Alleges Harassment and Non-Cooperation
In his statement, Sunil Kumar alleged that despite completing all formalities and submitting an authority letter, he was repeatedly made to visit the bank branches without success.
He claimed that the documents were being withheld unlawfully, causing delays and harassment, and that even repeated follow-ups failed to resolve the issue.
Bank Cites Documentation Discrepancies
A bank official, however, denied wrongdoing, stating that discrepancies in the authorisation letter prevented the release of documents.
According to the bank, a proper authorisation format, including a power of attorney on ₹100 stamp paper, was required. The official added that the formalities were completed recently and the matter is now being handled by the legal team.
Investigation Underway
Inspector Chander Bhan, Station House Officer of Sector-14 police station, confirmed that an investigation is in progress.
He said that since the FIR was recently registered, it may take time to gather evidence and determine further action.
