New Delhi: Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Indian Institute of Management Sambalpur to fund the construction of a 450-bedded girls’ hostel on the institute’s campus. The project, with an investment of ₹44.54 crore under MCL’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, aims to strengthen campus infrastructure and promote gender inclusivity in higher education.

The MoU was executed between MCL’s General Manager (CSR), Jyotirmay Sinha, and IIM Sambalpur Director, Mahadeo Jaiswal. The partnership underscores MCL’s commitment to supporting education and social development through strategic collaborations with premier institutions.

Hostel Development Project Details
The initiative involves the construction of three G+5 hostel buildings, designed to accommodate around 450 female students. Key features of the hostel include:
- Modern lifts for ease of access
- Solar water heating systems
- CCTV surveillance for enhanced security
- Fire safety systems
- Air-conditioned rooms for comfortable living
The project is expected to significantly improve residential facilities on campus, enabling more women to pursue world-class management education.
Focus on Women Empowerment and Education
MCL officials highlighted that the project aligns with the company’s CSR objectives, aiming to promote gender inclusivity and educational advancement. By providing state-of-the-art hostel facilities, the initiative seeks to create greater opportunities for female students to excel in management studies while fostering an inclusive learning environment.
