President Droupadi Murmu Urges IRS Officers to Embrace Technology for Efficient Tax Administration

Today, President Droupadi Murmu emphasized the need to make tax collection less intrusive and highlighted the importance of leveraging technology. She addressed trainee officers of the Indian Revenue Service (Customs and Indirect Taxes) during their visit to Rashtrapati Bhavan.

The President underlined that young officers bear the responsibility of introducing innovative ideas in tax administration. She stressed that taxation is not only a means of revenue generation but also a tool for social, economic, and political development, with citizens’ taxes being utilized for the nation’s growth and welfare.

Encouraging the officers to work with dedication, Murmu noted their potential to significantly contribute to India’s development. “Efforts should be made to make tax collection less intrusive and maximize the use of technology,” she stated, as per a Rashtrapati Bhavan release.

She praised the IRS (Customs and Indirect Taxes) for fostering uniformity in tax administration and supporting economic development through resource utilization for infrastructure, education, health, and social schemes. She described IRS officers as vital links between the central government, businesses, and state tax administrations, underscoring their role in nation-building.

President Murmu urged the officers to develop transparent systems ensuring accountability and integrity. Highlighting the global socio-economic shifts, she reminded them of their role as guardians of India’s economic boundaries, emphasizing the importance of honesty and dedication in their work.
