Congress President Ms. Sonia Gandhi has showed her concerns on the Ken-Betwa river Linkage project on Panna Tiger Reserve. She wrote a letter to the Union Minister of Environment Mr. Prakash Javadekar telling him about the impact this project will have on environment.
Mentioning that Panna has been revived with great difficulty she wrote, “The tiger reserve is threatened by the liver linking project and state government has estimated that 40% of PTR will be damaged. Around 18 lakh trees will be removed from the submerged area and issues on water availability is also under serious questions”.
She requested the minister that the project should not be implemented in its present shape and government should seriously look into the matter.
