1987 batch IAS officer Alapan Bandyopadhyay, Chief Secretary West Bengal, was given a three-month extension upon his superannuation at the end of May 2021.
Amid the Covid 19 surge in the state, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee wrote a letter to PM Modi on May 12 requesting him to extend his retirement date of Bandyopadhyay by three months. “Our chief secretary has got an extension for three months. We are happy because he has got the experience of working during last year’s Amphan as well as during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic,” CM said.
Bandyopadhyay succeeded IAS officer Rajiva Sinha to the post of Chief Secretary in September last year.
