On the occasion of World Environment Day, celebrated annually on June 5 every year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in a virtual event organized by the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas and the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change. The theme of the event for this year is ‘promotion of biofuels for better environment’.
During the event, PM Modi interacted with the farmers over their first hand experience as enablers under the Ethanol Blended Petrol and Compressed BioGas Programmes and released the ‘Report of the Expert Committee on Road Map for ethanol blending in India 2020-2025’.
While addressing the event, PM Modi said “today, on the occasion of World Environment Day, India has taken another big step. A detailed roadmap for the development of the ethanol sector has just been released. Until 7-8 years ago, ethanol was rarely discussed in the country and now it has become one of the major priorities of 21st century India.”
Many notable including ministers, bureaucrats and people from other professional background shared their messages on this World Environment’s Day.
Mr. Prakash Javadekar, Minister of Environment, Forest & Climate Change tweeted, “India is home to rich wildlife & biodiversity with 70% of Global Tiger,70% of Asiatic Lions & 60% of Leopard population Substantial increase in population of BIG Cats in last 7 yrs reflects Govt’s commitment towards conservation of our wildlife & environment”
Similarly, Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas and Minister of Steel, Government of India, Mr. Dharmendra Pradhan, called upon everyone to join the Generation Restoration to revive the earths ecosystem.
Member of Indian National Congress Rahul Gandhi also took to Twitter to share a simple yet strong message on the occasion of World Environment Day.
Indian cricket legend, Sachin Tendulkar shared a video in which he had transformed a barren land into a green space and is seen taking care of the plants.
IFS officer Praveen Kaswan also took to Twitter to commemorate World Environment Day with the scenic picture of nature, wildlife and the initiatives he has taken for the mother earth.
1986 batch IAS officer, Dr. Rajiv Kumar Gupta tweeted “Mother Nature has bestowed upon us bounties in the form of rivers, oceans, forests, animals and much more. But the need of the hour is to initiate a sustainable action plan to restore all the degradation that humanity has inflicted on this nature’s largesse.”
IFS officer Surendra Mehra also took to Twitter on the occasion as he wrote, “Let’s understand #Enviornment and our role before we celebrate #WorldEnviromentDay”
