Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday lauded the work being done by the Bureaucrats as he addressed the 16th Civil Services Day. PM Modi said India’s progress has gained new momentum in the past nine years due to the participation of civil servants. He also interacted with the officers and awarded many of them.

Hailing the contribution of civil servants towards nation-building, the prime minister said India’s rapid development would not have been possible without them. He noted that the global community has come to have great expectations from India in the last few years as key global agencies and experts have started saying that India’s time has arrived. He said all this is because India is now number one in digital payments and one of the few countries where mobile data is the cheapest and where rural economy is transforming.

Addressing the officers at a function in New Delhi, the Prime Minister also advised the civil servants to support the aspirations of the common man of the country.

“Today, I want to make a request to the bureaucracy of India, to every government employee of India, be it in the state government or the central government that the country has put a lot of trust in you and has given you a chance. You need to keep that trust and work. You are in service and the basis of your decisions should be only and only the welfare of the country,” said the PM.

Reminding them of the “Amrit Kaal” as India completes 75 years of its independence and plans for the next 25 years when the country will celebrate its centenary year of independence, Modi said that the civil servants are lucky as they got the chance to serve the nation in its Amrit Kal.

Those officers who came in this service 15-25 years ago played a big role in bringing the country to the golden age of independence and now in this ‘Amrit Kaal’ (golden age of freedom), the role of those young officers who will be in this service for the next 15-25 years is the biggest.

The prime minister also invoked his ‘Panch Pran’ (Goal of developed India is to remove any trace of the colonial mindset, and take pride in our roots, unity, and sense of duty among citizens) and said it will give India greatness it always deserved. He said that people’s perception has also changed. While earlier the thought process was that the government will do everything, but now people believe that the government will do everything for everyone.

An announcement issued by his office earlier said PM Modi has constantly appreciated the contribution of civil servants towards nation-building and encouraged them to work even harder, adding that the programme will serve as an apt platform for him to motivate and inspire bureaucrats from across the country so that they keep serving the nation with the same zeal, especially during this crucial phase of ‘Amrit Kaal’.

Civil Services Day’ is observed on April 21 every year to acknowledge the work of all the officers engaged in different public service departments in the country.

PM Modi awarded the ‘Prime Minister’s Excellence Medal’ to 15 civil service officers for setting the highest standards in public administration, for their excellent work in the field of public service under selected government schemes like ‘PM Gati Shakti’, ‘Ayushman Bharat’, ‘Har Ghar Jal’, ‘Aspirational District’ and ‘Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan’. Along with this, he inaugurated a coffee table book too.

The prime minister said that fast decisions will have to be taken to fulfill the expectations of the countrymen. We have to fulfill them.

We have to mobilize with all our might, decisions will be taken fast, those decisions will have to be implemented as fast. India’s time has come. In such a situation, India’s bureaucracy does not have to lose a single moment, from every bureaucracy of India, whether it is in the state or at the center.”

“I urge you that the country has put a lot of trust in you, keep that trust intact. The basis of your decisions in your service should be the national interest. I am sure you will meet this criteria as well,” PM Modi added.

Vice President Mr Jagdeep Dhankhar on April 20 while inaugurating the 16th Civil Services Day celebrations in the national capital said that Civil Services Day is an occasion for civil servants to rededicate themselves to the cause of citizens and renew their commitments and excellence in work.

IAS Associations also share a post on this occasions and wrote “As civil servants, We feel immense pride in serving our nation and making a difference in people’s lives. On #CivilServicesDay, we rededicate ourselves to take the Nation to new heights in #Amritkaal. It’s an honour to be part of this noble profession!”

IAS officer of Rajasthan cadre, Dr. Om P. Machra wishes everyone and shared his award. He tweeted, “Today, Mehsana district received the Prime Minister’s Award for excellence in civil service from the Honorable Prime Minister. Congratulations to the entire #TeamMehsana.”

She tweeted, “On receiving the Prime Minister’s Award for excellence in Civil Services 2022, I take this opportunity to thank Hon’ble PM Modi ji for acknowledging the efforts made and Hon’ble LG Manoj Sinha ji for having faith in me. My gratitude to all of you for your wishes!!”

Civil servant, Mr Manivannan P shared a wonderful message on this occasion and said, “A notable trait of Civil Servants is arrogance. It sticks to you when you clear the UPSC and keeps growing with every salute/’yes sir’ and the power that one gets on the way.

If we can remove even some amount of arrogance, then #CivilServicesDay becomes more meaningful.”

The 2011 batch IAS officer Hephsiba R Korlapati shared a poem dedicated to civil servants. She tweeted, “Decoding word Civil that prefixes Judges, lawyers, Surgeons, Engineers, officers, Servants, jotted this poem for #CivilServicesDay2023. CIVIL is #People!

With wisdom, courage & empathy,
Is to serve the unseen God Almighty!”

I wish to be reborn as an Indian Civil Servant. Nothing can be more satisfying than the ability to serve the masses and the classes, the happy and the hungry, the privileged and the needy, alike.”
