Former chief secretary Somesh Kumar has been appointed as chief advisor to Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao. His appointment is in the rank of Cabinet minister for three year. Mr. Kumar who is a 1989 batch officer too voluntary retirement from service following his allocation to Andhra Pradesh cadre by the high court.
Known to be close with CM Rao, Mr. Kumar was appointed as the chief secretary in 2019 superseding several senior officers. His tenure would have come to an end in December this year but he retired early.
Let it be noted that he was allocated to Andhra Pradesh in 2014 but he stayed in Telangana, after a favourable order from the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT). Later, the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) challenged the order in the high court which reallocated him to the Andhra Pradesh cadre in January this year.
