1989 batch IAS officer Shiv Das Meena is the next Chief Secretary of Tamil Nadu. He assumes charge on Friday afternoon.
CM M K Stalin led state government on Thursday issued an order of appointing 59 year old senior IAS officer Shiv Das Meena who will replace V Irai Anbu, an IAS officer of 1988 batch, retiring on June 30, 2023.
Mr Meena was serving as the Secretary of Municipal Administration and Water Supply Department. He is the 49th Chief Secretary of the state and is the senior most IAS official in the Tamil Nadu cadre.
A civil engineering graduate from the Malaviya College of Engineering, Jaipur, he also had earned a master’s degree in international development studies from Kobe, Japan.
Born on October 5, 1964, Mr Meena originally belongs to Rajasthan and started his career in 1989 as an assistant collector in Kancheepuram district, and went on to become additional collector (development) and project officer, DRDA in Vellore, and thereafter in Coimbatore.
He has served for 34 years in various positions in both the state and central government and has headed key departments in the state.
He was among the private secretaries of late Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa and had a stint in numerous departments including rural development, land administration and transport departments besides cooperatives, food and consumer protection department.
Under the state government, Meena served in various departments including Agriculture, Higher Education, Commercial Taxes, Urban Development, Civil Supplies, Cooperation, Revenue, Rural Development, Chennai Metro Water Supply and Sewerage Board, Medical Services Board, etc.
Under the Central Government, Meena held the position of Additional Secretary, Housing and Urban Affairs; As Chairman, Environment, Forest and Climate Change CPCB Central Pollution Control Board, New Delhi.
