1992 batch IFS officer and senior diplomat, Mr. Gopal Baglay, has been appointed as India’s High Commissioner to Australia.
He will take the place of Mr. Manpreet Vohra, an IFS officer of 1988 batch, who will now hold the position of India’s High Commissioner to Sri Lanka.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) officially confirmed this appointment in a statement released on Wednesday, stating, “Gopal Baglay (IFS:1992), presently serving as High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka, has been appointed as the next High Commissioner of India to Australia. He is expected to take up the assignment shortly”.
Mr. Baglay has held various key roles within the Ministry of External Affairs, including serving as the official spokesperson and Joint Secretary for Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Iran affairs.
He also worked as Joint Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office. He commenced his assignment in Colombo in May 2020.
