The tenure of Amit Khare, who is an adviser to the Prime Minister, has been granted an extension under the regular terms and service of the position. The Appointments Committee of the Union Cabinet has approved his extension and his tenure has now been made coterminous with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. His tenure was scheduled to be completed in October 2023.
Mr. Khare who is an IAS officer of 1985 batch was appointed as the advisor on October 12, 2021. He had served as Collector and Deputy Commissioner of 4 districts namely Darbhanga, Begusarai, West Singhbhum (Chaibasa), and Patna. He has also served as the Vice Chancellor of Ranchi University and was working as a secretary in I&B, Government of India.
He is known for forming the National Education Policy 2020 and bringing key changes in the I&B ministry concerning digital media regulations. He is also credited for his role in unveiling the ‘Fodder Scam’ and launching an ‘Anti-Superstition Campaign’ to save women from harassment.
