Indian Masterminds Stories

On March 10th, Maharatna PSU NTPC and its renewable energy arm NGEL each entered into a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (RRVUNL) in Jaipur.

The MoU between NTPC and RVUNL aims at exploring new opportunities and adding supercritical units to the Chhabra Thermal Power Plant. They aim to implement measures that enhance productivity and curb the power generation cost of the plant’s existing units. The MoU also includes the undertaking of 15-year to 20-year annuity-based Renovation and Modernization (R&M) of old thermal units of RVUNL by NTPC or its affiliates. This MoU was signed in the presence of the Executive Director, BD, IBD & Consultancy of NTPC, Mr. R Sarangapani and the CMD of RVUNL, Mr. Devender Shringi.

The MoU between NGEL and RVUNL aims to develop Renewable Energy Projects with up to 25 GW capacity and Green Hydrogen Derivatives with up to 1 million tons capacity in Rajasthan. This MoU was signed between Chief Executive Officer, NGEL, Mr. Rajiv Gupta and Chairman and Managing Director, RVUNL, Mr. Devender Shringi.

It must be mentioned that NTPC is India’s largest integrated power utility and has more than 75 GW installed capacity — contributing to meeting a quarter of India’s gross electricity demand. The NTPC aims to expand its non-fossil-based capacity to 45%-50% of its total portfolio of 130 GW, with 60 GW of renewable energy capacity, by 2032.
