SJVN Limited announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with THDC India Limited for the establishment of a high-performance water sports academy in Tehri, Uttarakhand. The agreement was formalized in New Delhi, with SJVN CMD Geeta Kapur and THDC’s Director (Personnel) Shallinder Singh present.
Geeta Kapur highlighted that under the MoU, SJVN will extend financial support of Rs 1 crore to THDC for the creation of a state-of-the-art gymnasium as an essential component of the water sports academy. Alongside, the academy will feature modern training facilities equipped with advanced infrastructure, developed through collaboration among SJVN, THDC, ITBP, the Indian Kayaking and Canoeing Association, and the Olympic Association of Uttarakhand. Its primary focus will be on training national-level athletes for Kayaking & Canoeing competitions, both at the national and international levels.
The academy aims to discover and nurture talent in water sports from a young age, ensuring a sustainable pipeline of skilled athletes. Its establishment aligns with the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports’ flagship initiative ‘Khelo India,’ aiming to leave a lasting impact on youth development.
The MoU was signed by SJVN’s GM (CSR) Awadhesh Prasad and THDC’s GM (CSR) Amardeep.
