After an extensive search, the Uttar Pradesh Forest Department successfully captured a male wolf in Sisaiya village in Bahraich. The capture is part of a heightened effort to locate and neutralize a pack of wolves suspected of being responsible for a series of deadly attacks in the district.

The captured wolf is believed to be one of the three wolves involved in the recent spate of attacks that have resulted in the deaths of nine individuals, including 8 children and a woman, over the past few weeks.

The forest department had previously captured three wolves following the initial reports of attacks, but the killings persisted, prompting an intensified search.

According to officials, 25 forest department teams and over 350 security personnel have been deployed to monitor and secure the affected areas. The search intensified over the past 10 days, and on Wednesday, forest teams tracked the movements of the suspected wolves using thermal drones.

Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife) Sanjay Srivastava reported that the captured wolf was first detected by a thermal drone and its movements were monitored through the night. The wolf’s footprints were identified, leading to its capture from the floodplain of Sisaiya village around 10:45 am on Thursday.

The captured wolf will be transported to the Gorakhpur Zoo for further examination. Bahraich District Forest Officer Ajeet Singh explained that the male wolf was cornered by various teams and, upon attempting to escape towards the river, was tranquilized and netted.

The forest department continues its search for the remaining two wolves from the pack. Efforts are ongoing to ensure the safety of residents in the terror-stricken villages and to prevent further attacks.
