Miracle Recovery: Elephant Calf Rescued from Torsha River Thrives Under Forest Service Care

Indian Masterminds Stories

A touching story of survival and recovery has captured the hearts of many after IFS officer Parveen Kaswan shared a video of an elephant calf named Beer. Once on the brink of death, Beer has now grown into a healthy four-year-old, thriving under the care of a dedicated team.

In a post on the social media platform X, Mr. Kaswan recounted the remarkable rescue and recovery journey of Beer. The tiny, premature calf was discovered in September 2020, struggling alone in the tumultuous waters of the Torsha River. Found just days old, the frail calf faced a grim future without the protection and support of its mother or herd.

However, thanks to the swift actions of a team of rescuers, Beer’s fate changed dramatically. The team initially nourished the calf with lactogen milk and later transitioned him to fruits and solid foods as he gradually regained his strength.

One of the key figures in Beer’s recovery was Cheron Subba, a member of the park staff who went above and beyond to ensure the calf’s well-being. Subba even slept beside Beer for the first four months to provide comfort and a sense of safety during the calf’s most vulnerable days.

The video shared by Mr. Kaswan last week, showcasing Beer’s incredible transformation, has already garnered over 36,000 views. The heartwarming footage reveals how Beer, once a frail and frightened calf, is now a thriving and beloved member of the National Park family.

“Today, four years later, Beer is a symbol of hope and resilience, thriving in our care,” Kaswan noted, celebrating the successful rehabilitation of the young elephant.

The story of Beer’s recovery is a testament to the dedication and compassion of the park staff and has been a source of inspiration and joy to many across the country.
