The government of Odisha has recently a senior IPS officer, Mr. Arun Kumar Sarangi as the Chairman of the Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC). As per a notification issued by the General Administration and Public Grievance (GA&PG) Department, IPS Sarangi (1990 batch), has been appointed as the next Chairman of the OPSC for a period of six years.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by clause (1) of Article 316 of the Constitution of India, read with Regulation 3 of the Odisha Public Service Commission (Conditions of Service) Regulations, 1952, the Governor of Odisha has been pleased to appoint Shri Arun Kumar Sarangi, IPS, Special Director General of Police (Training) and Director, Biju Patnaik State Police Academy, Odisha as Chairman, Odisha Public Service Commission for a term of six years from the date he enters upon his office or until he attains the age of sixty-two years, whichever is earlier,” read the notification.
IPS Sarangi, who will turn 62 on July 25th, 2027, can remain as the OPSC Chairman for 2 years and 10 months. It is to be noted here that the senior IPS officer was in-charge DGP of Odisha from December 31st, 2023 to August 16th, 2024 and is now posted as Special DG, Training & Director, Biju Patnaik State Police Academy (BPSPA). Officer Sarangi follows the suit of IPS Satyajit Mohanty (1988 batch), who was appointed OPSC Chairman and remained in the post till he turned 62.
