Director General Paramesh Sivamani has officially assumed the role of the 26th Chief of the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) as of October 16, 2024. This appointment follows the recent passing of his predecessor, DG Rakesh Pal, last month.

The announcement was made by the Modi government, designating Sivamani, previously Additional Director General, as the head of the maritime force. With over three decades of distinguished service in various capacities both ashore and afloat, Sivamani brings a wealth of experience to his new position.

A specialist in Navigation and Direction, DG Sivamani has commanded several key vessels in the Coast Guard fleet, including the Advanced Offshore Patrol Vessel Samar and Offshore Patrol Vessel Vishwast. His leadership experience includes significant roles as the head of Coast Guard Region (East) and Coast Guard Region (West), as well as Coast Guard Commander for the Eastern Seaboard.

An alumnus of the National Defence College in New Delhi and the Defence Services Staff College in Wellington, Sivamani was promoted to Additional Director General in September 2022 and later took on the additional responsibility of Director General in August 2024. During this time, he oversaw numerous critical operations, including the seizure of narcotics and gold worth crores, rescue missions during severe cyclones, joint exercises with foreign coast guards, anti-poaching initiatives, and humanitarian assistance during natural disasters.

In recognition of his exemplary service, DG Paramesh Sivamani has received several accolades, including the Tatrakshak Medal in 2014 and the President Tatrakshak Medal in 2019. He has also been honored with the DG Coast Guard Commendation in 2012 and the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief (East) Commendation in 2009.

As he takes the helm of the ICG, Sivamani is expected to continue the organization’s commitment to maritime security and safety, navigating challenges in an increasingly complex maritime environment.
