Top Officers, Including Mizoram Chief Secretary, Retiring This October

A significant transition in Indian bureaucracy as 23 senior IAS officers from various cadres, including Mizoram Chief Secretary Dr. Renu Sharma and Punjab’s Vini Mahajan, retire in October 2024.

In October 2024, India’s administrative landscape witnesses the retirement of 36 senior IAS officers from various state and union territories, marking the close of their impactful careers. Among the distinguished officers stepping down is Dr. Renu Sharma, a 1988-batch officer from the AGMUT cadre, who has recently served as Mizoram’s Chief Secretary, known for her broad contributions within the AGMUT administration.

The Andhra Pradesh cadre bids farewell to Gopal Krishna Dwivedi and M Prashanti, while Bihar’sAshutosh Kumar Verma, a 2010-batch officer and the District Magistrate of Nawada, concludes his tenure, recognized for his significant administrative contributions in Bihar. Additionally, A B Rathod of the Gujarat cadre retires, having served with dedication throughout his career.

From Punjab, Vini Mahajan, a 1987-batch officer, retires after a remarkable career that included key positions such as Secretary in the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation and roles in the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change. Tamil Nadu’s Dr. L. Subramanian, a 2005-batch officer who served as Secretary to the Tamil Nadu State Election Commission, also joins the retirees, concluding his administrative journey.

Notable retirees from other states include TVS Prasad of Haryana, Devinder Kumar Rattan from Himachal Pradesh, Pankaj Rag of Madhya Pradesh, and Vijay Kumar Yadav of Uttarakhand, all of whom have contributed to diverse initiatives in areas ranging from governance and public safety to environmental management.

This October also sees the retirement of 13 seasoned IPS officers who served across India, including Sunil Kumar (1987 batch, UT cadre), Thomas Zodingliana (1988 batch, UT cadre), Claudia Anne Lyngwa (1992 batch, Assam-Meghalaya cadre), Rajinder Kumar (1988 batch, Gujarat cadre), R K Hingankar (1989 batch, Madhya Pradesh cadre), and K Martin Pienyu (1989 batch, Nagaland cadre).

Further, S T Bhutia (1988 batch, Sikkim cadre), Rajiv Ratan (1989 batch, Telangana cadre), Jugul Kishore (1989 batch, Uttar Pradesh cadre), Avadhesh Kumar Viieta (1989 batch, Uttar Pradesh cadre), Awdesh Singh (1989 batch, Uttar Pradesh cadre), Zulfiquar Hasan (1988 batch, West Bengal cadre), and S Mohamd Hussain Meerza (1988 batch, West Bengal cadre) leave behind legacies in law enforcement, having served with distinction in various state police departments.

These 36 dedicated officers, with careers spanning three to four decades, retire after extensive service to the nation. Their work in diverse administrative sectors has not only contributed to public service but also inspired a new generation of officers to carry forward their commitment and leadership in shaping India’s future.
