Meet IAS Vivek Joshi, the New Chief Secretary of Haryana

IAS Vivek Joshi, who was recently repatriated to his parent cadre in Haryana, has been appointed the state’s new Chief Secretary. Mr. Joshi, a 1989-batch Haryana cadre IAS officer, last served as the Secretary of the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT), and two weeks before that, he had been laterally shifted from the Department of Financial Services (DFS) to DoPT. 

According to an official order issued on the same day, IAS Joshi will oversee general administration, human resources, personnel and training, parliamentary affairs, and the vigilance department, in addition to serving as the secretary in charge of plan coordination. His appointment for the post of Haryana’s Chief Secretary had been cleared by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet on October 26th.

The Haryana government’s circular also mentions that Officer Joshi is currently in the process of repatriation from the central government, and his posting will take effect upon his joining the Haryana cadre. Till he assumes the big role, Haryana’s Additional Chief Secretary (home) IAS Anurag Rastogi (1990 batch) will look after the assignment of state Chief Secretary.

Officer Johsi persued a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Roorkee and then earned a postgraduate diploma in International Business from the IIFT, New Delhi. He earned Degree of M.A and Ph.D both in Internal Economics from Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies.

IAS TVSN Prasad, an 1988-batch IAS officer, was appointed as the full-fledged Chief Secretary of Haryana on August 1st and had previously assumed the responsibilities of Chief Secretary during the leave of senior IAS Sanjeev Kaushal (1986 batch) for over four and a half months.
