The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointments of two senior officers to the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC). The new members, both officers from the Indian Revenue Service (IRS), will take charge in December 2024 and January 2025.
Mohan Kumar Singh (IRS C&IT: 1989), currently serving as Principal Director General at the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence, has been appointed as a Member of the CBIC. He will assume his new role effective December 1, 2024.
Yogendra Garg (IRS C&IT: 1990), serving as the Principal Director General at the Directorate General of System & Data Management, will join the CBIC as a Member starting January 1, 2025.
These appointments come at a crucial time when the CBIC, which plays a key role in formulating and implementing tax policies and procedures, is focused on enhancing compliance, improving the efficiency of the indirect tax system, and leveraging technology for better governance.
Both Singh and Garg bring decades of experience in the Indian Revenue Service, having held various key positions in the field of taxation, intelligence, and data management.
