These are unprecedented times. Today our country is battling with one of the biggest healthcare- crisis due to the second wave of Covid-19. With lakhs of positive cases and thousands of death every day, the situation is only worsening. At this hour not only the government but individuals too are coming forward to do their bit for humanity in this fight against coronavirus. People like IAS officer Abhishek Singh have joined the march and are inspiring others with their endeavours.

Mr. Singh also donated wheel chairs to specially abled people during the ongoing pandemic situation

The 2011 batch IAS officer, who will soon be seen in a popular web series, has launched his initiative called ‘United by blood’. He feels that no matter where we come from, we are all united by the blood and this is the time where everyone needs to stick together and fight off the virus

During a conversation with Indian Masterminds, Mr Sing talked about his initiative to connect the plasma donors with the needy.

We are in this together

‘United by Blood’ (UBB) is an online portal started by Mr. Singh, and it provides the platform where the plasma donors can connect with the recipients. Till now around 2000 people have joined and registered on this platform. Talking about it, he said, “Plasma therapy has been the most successful in treatment of Covid-19. However, it is tough to find a donor who is willing to donate plasma on time. Besides, the misinformation about the donation of plasma is also making the whole thing quite tough. Through UBB we have tried to connect the donors with the patient or their relatives so that the treatment could be given on time. With immense feeling of gratitude and happiness, I would like to mention that around 300 people have been benefitted with plasma through this platform.”

Abhishek Singh, the actor – bureaucrat is currently posted as Deputy Commissioner in Delhi

Mr. Singh also mentioned that many of his celebrity friends like rap singer Badshah and Guru Randhawa were helping him to promote this portal, so that more and more people could be roped in. He has also collaborated with Easy my Trip for his venture.

Oxy taxi and much more

Mr Abhishek Singh is constantly working towards making this platform multi-purpose. To With a view to tackle the scarcity of oxygen he has launched Oxy Taxi through which the needy persons can request for the refill of oxygen cylinders. “Many patients are isolated in their homes and are on oxygen support. They don’t have ways to get more cylinders or refill. To solve this we have started the Oxy taxi service. The individual has to request the requirement on UBB and we will help them out with refill services”, added Mr. Singh.

The officer is all set to start the renting facility for oxygen concentrators

Apart from this, he is also working to offer the facility of renting Oxygen Concentrator on UBB. The concentrators are able to supply 5-10 litres of oxygen per minute and the oxygen are 90-95% pure. “Hopefully, this service will be started in a week time”, he said.

Wife has been my constant support

Mr. Singh has started this portal on individual level but he didn’t miss the chance to thank his wife Ms. Durga Shakti Nagpal who is also an IAS officer. He said, “Although she is not part of this officially but she has been my constant support. Whether it is the decision of getting into acting business or my other initiatives like ‘World or Wardi’ or UBB, she has always encouraged me.”

Mr Singh is among the growing band of bureaucrats who have gone beyond their call of duty to help people in this time of extreme distress.
