The children of an orphanage in Udaipur were in for a fun-filled surprise when they visited the District Collector’s residence for a special breakfast with him. Because post breakfast, Collector Tarachand Meena had laid out plans for the whole day for the children, which included games, tours, boating, etc. He along with a team of officers accompanied the children and spent the entire day with them. This gave them a chance to know the children intimately by interacting with them to know their wishes, desires, and goals in life.
In an exclusive conversation with Indian Masterminds, Sub Divisional Magistrate of Udaipur, Ms. Saloni Khemka, shared details about the special day.
A VISIT TO THE COLLECTOR’S RESIDENCE
The morning of February 24, 2022, brought happiness into the lives of little children residing in Lavina Seva Sansthan and TAD’s Ashram Hostel Pai, who were left orphaned due to Covid19. This happiness was due to a special invitation to the District Collector’s home.
The officer invited a total of 75 children to his residence where the other officers like SDM Saloni Khemka, ADM Ashok Sharma, were also present to greet and interact with the children.
“We came up with the decision to spend time with the little children so as to motivate them and guide them towards a better future,” said Ms. Khemka.
HAPPY DAY OUT
The officers had planned an elaborate day for the children, filled with games, sports, fun, and frolic. The children reached the venue in the morning and had breakfast with the Collector and the officers at his home.
Further, he gathered them and took them out for boating in Nehru Garden, which the kids absolutely loved. Next, the officers brought the children to a zoo and botanical garden park, where they learned about various plants. The little ones jumped with joy upon seeing the lions and tigers in the park. The children were also accompanied by forest officers here who shared their experiences and interesting stories with them.
A SPECIAL DAY FOR ALL
The team of officers had arranged for a special bus for the children that took them across town for a picnic and tours to monumental locations and tourist places also. They visited Fatehsagar’s fish aquarium, where the children saw a variety of colorful fishes.
“To show them our culture and diversity, we took the children to Lok Kala Mandla, where they witnessed colorful puppet shows and we all had lunch together, along with Brand Ambassador Ms. Divyani Katara,” Ms. Khemka said.
MOTIVATING YOUNG MINDS
The officers conversed with children and heard about their future aspirations and goals. Several children in the lot wished to become IAS officers like them and so the officers promised to help them with their preparation when the time comes.
The officers declared that they would help and support the children in their education and sports if they are interested, or in whichever field that they choose.
The day ended with the officers’ distributing gifts among the children, which consisted of t-shirts, caps, school bags, whistles, etc. The faces of the children lit up with happiness as they left the Collector’s residence and went back to the home.
This is the first time that the district administration of Udaipur has taken an initiative like this. However, this will not be the only time as the officers have decided to continue with such initiatives in the days to come.
