Who says being true to a profession precludes us from following several passions? Just look at the amazing profile of Eksha Kerung of Sikkim, who never let any barrier come in between her professionalism and dreams. From being a boxer to becoming a cop, she has now entered the entertainment industry by getting selected in MTV Supermodel of the year season 2. She is just unstoppable and has a fearless heart for her profession and passion.

And yes, this perky young woman is also a biker who is currently pursuing her graduation.

In an exclusive interview with Indian Masterminds, Ms. Eksha opens up about her journey and inspiration. To cope up with the financial constraints and to support her family, she gave her best to become a cop and served as a frontline warrior. As she said, “Everyone here would get through a lot of hard work to get through it and luckily I was one of them. I am the only one to get a job in my family. It was also my father’s dream to see me in a police uniform, so that was very much important for me to make him feel over the moon”.

BOXING FOR NINE YEARS

Being a daughter of an athlete, who was also a national level footballer, fitness activities had some great importance in her family. From her childhood, in order to build her stamina, Ms Eksha joined boxing and gradually started loving it. She continued practicing the sport for nine years where she reached not only the state level but also represented at the national level.

BECOMING A COP

She was already doing good in sports. However, due to some financial constraints in the family, she had to appear for the Sikkim Police exam. Eksha’s father always dreamt of seeing her daughter in a police uniform. Clearing physical test was a piece of cake for her, but she managed to excel in the written exams as well. She even got selected in the special force, the anti–riots unit which mostly focuses on dispersing violent mobs.

Ms. Eksha Kerung

Ms. Eksha told Indian Masterminds, “During elections, the police duty is quite hectic as there is a huge crowd and we have to handle it. Therefore, we are the ones who face a lot of heat. Apart from this, we had to serve in the Covid care centres during which we just packed our backpacks and got dispatched for more than two or five months to a particular covid care centre. In these situations, we get to know nothing beforehand, as the call comes during emergencies.”

BECOMING AN MTV SUPERMODEL

It was not a random shot in modeling that got her into it, but Ms.Eksha was pretty much interested in it since her college days. She recalled, “It just started when I watched an MTV reality show related to modeling, so instinctively it came to my heart that I wanted to get in this show no matter what. It was in 2018 when I participated in Miss Sikkim and made it to the Top 10 finalist. This really boosted my confidence”.

Ms. Eksha has now cleared the audition round and made it to the top 10 of MTV Supermodel of the Year Season 2.

PERSPECTIVE TOWARDS THE JOB AND FUTURE

Though her profession and passion are very much different, Ms. Eksha has created a balance between both; and her police department is also very supportive about her. She said, “I love my job and I am very proud to call myself a cop in Sikkim Police. This is the job that earned me respect and gave me the opportunity to serve the people. I get goosebumps when I am appreciated for my work by my family and higher authorities”

Well, doesn’t her inspiring journey make us believe that the phrase “on the horns of dilemma” should not be so frustrating, after all?!
