India responds again with a proportionate strike after Pakistan’s drone and missile attacks; a key air defence system in Lahore was neutralised following intensified cross-border firing and civilian casualties.

New Delhi: In the wake of renewed provocations by Pakistan, the Indian Armed Forces have delivered a proportionate and calibrated response, targeting key military infrastructure across the border.

In a press briefing held on May 7, 2025, the Indian Armed Forces characterized ‘Operation Sindoor’ as a “focused, measured and non-escalatory” operation. The Defence Ministry clarified that Indian responses were deliberately restrained, and notably, Pakistani military establishments were not targeted. The statement also carried a clear warning: any attack on military targets in India would invite a proportionate and precise response.

Overnight Provocation: Pakistan Targets Multiple Indian Military Sites

Despite India’s call for de-escalation, Pakistan attempted to target several Indian military installations across Northern and Western India during the night of May 7–8. The coordinated attacks involved drones and missiles aimed at strategic locations, including Awantipura, Srinagar, Jammu, Pathankot, Amritsar, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Adampur, Bhatinda, Chandigarh, Nal, Phalodi, Uttarlai, and Bhuj.

Thanks to India’s Integrated Counter Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) Grid and Air Defence systems, these attacks were successfully thwarted. Recovery operations are underway across various regions to collect debris that provides tangible proof of Pakistan’s offensive actions.

India Strikes Back: Air Defence Systems in Pakistan Targeted

In a proportionate and domain-specific counter-strike, the Indian Armed Forces this morning targeted Pakistan’s air defence infrastructure, according to a statement from the Ministry of Defence. The response focused on Air Defence Radars and systems at multiple locations inside Pakistan.

“It has been reliably learnt that an Air Defence system at Lahore has been neutralised,” the Defence Ministry reported. This action, India asserts, mirrors the scale and type of provocation initiated by Pakistan, thus maintaining the balance without escalating the conflict.

Escalation Along the LoC: Pakistan Resorts to Heavy Firing

In a parallel development, Pakistan intensified unprovoked firing across the Line of Control (LoC) using mortars and heavy artillery in multiple sectors including Kupwara, Baramulla, Uri, Poonch, Mendhar, and Rajouri. These attacks resulted in the tragic loss of 16 civilian lives, including three women and five children.

Faced with these provocations, Indian forces responded effectively to suppress the artillery and mortar fire from the Pakistani side. The retaliation aimed to halt further civilian casualties and restore calm along the border.

India Reiterates Call for Non-Escalation

The Indian Armed Forces have once again emphasized their commitment to peace and non-escalation, contingent on mutual respect for restraint. “India will continue to act in its own defence and to safeguard its sovereignty, but will not seek conflict,” a senior defence official stated.

Tensions High but Calculated Response from India

As tensions simmer between the two nuclear-armed neighbours, India’s latest actions underscore a policy of strategic restraint backed by decisive military capability. The Indian government’s measured tone, coupled with a proportionate military response, signals its intent to avoid a larger conflict while making clear that provocations will not go unanswered.
