There’s no denying how important guidance and support from the family are to a child’s success in life.  In the case of Arth Jain, his IPS officer father became his inspiration and guide to success in the UPSC Civil Services Examination. His father, Mr. Mukesh Jain, is a 1989-batch IPS officer and is presently posted as Transport Commissioner in Madhya Pradesh. Mr. Jain always kept Arth motivated by saying that “one should not be disappointed by setbacks and continue the process until success is achieved.”

EARLY LIFE

Arth Jain grew up in the Jabalpur district of Madhya Pradesh. He completed his primary education from the Sanskriti School, Delhi. After that, he cracked the IIT Entrance Exam in his first attempt and did Mechanical Engineering from IIT Delhi in 2019.

UPSC JOURNEY

The journey of his UPSC CSE preparation started in 2017 when he was in his third year of graduation. He started his UPSC preparation along with his engineering degree, building his foundation strong. Initially, he took the help of weekend coaching classes to have proper insight into the syllabus and to understand the pattern of the examination.

FAILED FIRST ATTEMPT

He made his first attempt at the UPSC examination in 2019. That year, he was not able to clear the preliminary phase of the exam. Sharing the reason for his failure in the first attempt, Arth said, “The reason for my failure during the first attempt was lack of revision. I did not practice the test series questions as per the requirement. I also did not go through in-depth views of the subjects asked in preliminary exam, and all these things together generated some nervousness and impacted my result.”

PREPARATION STRATEGY

About his preparation strategy, Arth said, “During the preparation, my first objective was to be disciplined and focus on proper time management. I created my own strategy and divided the time equally for General Studies as well as for my Mains optional which was Mathematics. I also gave proper attention to the regular answer-writing practice and solving test series questions as much as possible. All these things together fetched me good results and played a crucial role in my success.”

ADVICE TO ASPIRANTS

Arth has few words of advice for all aspirants: “UPSC Civil Services Exam only demands consistent and sustainable preparation. If you want to crack this exam, then you must be well disciplined and should have a proper timetable for your study. Fix daily targets and those targets must be achieved without any gaps so that optimum result is achieved. Keep content concise and revise it as much as possible.”a
