Nothing is impossible for a person with grit and determination, not even the coveted job of an IPS. Doesn't matter that Mr Prem Sukh Delu started off as a Patwari of Bikaner village
Indian Masterminds Stories

As well known diplomat and former First Lady of the United States Eleanor Roosevelt once quipped, “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.” Mr. Premsukh Delu is a shining example of making this come true. Hailing from a farmer’s family in Bikaner, Rajasthan, he started his career as a patwari and is now serving as an IPS officer in Gujarat.

Mr. Delu’s story is an example of people who can pursue their dreams and achieve it with sheer devotion and hard work, regardless of their present condition.

Mr. Premsukh Delu did not have an easy childhood. From his days as a student, he was burdened with several additional responsibilities. His family was raised by his grandmother because of the early demise of his grandfather in an accident. Coming from a backward area from the state of Rajasthan, his parents used to barely meet the basic needs, working day and night as a farmer and also as a daily wage laborer. However, his parents had bigger dreams for their children, as they did not themselves get a chance to pursue education.

AIMING FOR A GOVERNMENT JOB

Learning from the hardship his parents were facing, Mr Premsukh in his early life decided on a government job. He completed his early education from a government school in Rajasthan, after which he pursued an MA in History from Dungar College, Bikaner. Being a dedicated student, he also got the gold medal in MA History and was highly appreciated by everyone. Soon after he completed his MA, he got into the government office as a patwari (revenue officer) in 2010.

Mr. Premsukh Delu always wanted to be a top government official. And in a span of six years, he cleared more than 10 government exams. As he told Indian Masterminds, “In the same year when I joined as a Patwari, I cleared the exam for Gram Sevak and also achieved the first position in the state for assistant jailor exam. I didn’t stop there as in 2011, I cleared the exam for primary teacher and twice the exam for a secondary teacher as I enrolled for both the vacancies and was gradually selected in both. After that in 2012, I successfully cleared two exams of sub-inspector in Rajasthan Police and school lecturer respectively after passing in NET-JRF. I also appeared for Rajasthan Administrative Services (RAS) in 2012 and secured 107th rank, however missed it by one position as I was in the first waiting list. In the RAS 2013 exam, I secured 44th rank and in the same year I was also selected as a college lecturer.”

He said, “Working as an assistant jailor and sub-inspector gave me a better understanding of issues concerning police personnel. While in the revenue department I learned how to tackle the land and property disputes better. I observed, during my days of teaching, the importance of dealing with crimes in the society.”

During IPS training

In 2015, Mr Presmsukh appeared for the UPSC exam with History as a subject and attempting the mains exam in the Hindi medium. When the final result was out, he secured an all India ranking of 170, and become an IPS officer of the 2016 batch. Initially, he was posted as ASP Sabarkatha, Gujarat during his training but was then given his first posting as an ASP of Amreli, Gujarat.
