IRS officer Suresh Lakhavath comes from a Banjara community (Nomadic Tribe) and grew up in a in Sarwapuram village hamlet in Mahabubabad District, Telangana. Growing up he didn’t have a pakka house, road, electricity or proper school. However, life took few turns and he reached to Hyderabad Public School with a rich alumnus.
Once whole of his village was burnt and a collector visited his area. The collector assigned the family few houses. This event created a memory for Suresh Lakhavath and he believed collectors to be harbinger of change & growth. While this was in his memory, during his school days he met many officers and received awards from them. Watching them made him dream about UPSC CSE and after school he came to Delhi with support of his friend and cracked the most-toughest exam of the country.
He was preparing for UPSC CSE but his family had no idea about it. Mr. Lakhavath shares in this video interview that he was not very close to his parent because he always lived in hostels. Yet, before going for his UPSC interview he wanted to take blessing from his parent. When he called on the village’s phone, his mother told him that his father is in jail.
