Monika Bhardwaj, a 2009-batch IPS officer, has created history by becoming first woman DCP to have been appointed in the crime branch of Delhi police. She is presently posted in BPR&D .
The move is likely to boost the morale of women cop and officers in the police force besides instilling confidence amongst people in Delhi police.
The appointment however, comes with its own set of challenges. Some officers believe that She has been given the position because of the way she handled the violence in Tis Hazari with lawyers.
Till a few years ago, the responsibility of the Special Cell was to catch and deal with terrorists, while the Crime Branch was seen taking action against other hardcore criminals. In recent years, the Special Cell has conducted most encounters against criminals and terrorists.
She was in the forefront of India’s battle against Covid-19 but in the process, contracted the virus herself. However, she has fully recovered hence, and has joined the duty.
