Patna: In a major push toward women’s empowerment and employment generation, Bihar will soon see Jeevika Didis behind the steering wheel of Pink Buses, Transport Minister Shravan Kumar announced during a departmental review meeting held at Vishweshwaraiya Bhawan on Wednesday.
The minister said that women from the Jeevika network will be trained and appointed as drivers and conductors on Pink Buses operating across the state. “This initiative will open new avenues of livelihood for women and write a new chapter in gender empowerment,” he added.
Training and Eligibility
Interested Jeevika Didis, along with other women candidates, can apply until December 15, 2025. Applicants must hold a Light Motor Vehicle (LMV) licence, after which they will undergo specialized training at the Institute of Driving Training and Research (IDTR) located in Patna or Aurangabad.
- Minimum qualification: 8th pass
- Preference will be given to candidates with 9th or 10th-grade education.
After completion of training, successful candidates will be issued HMV licences and appointed on a contractual basis against available vacancies.

200 Women to Be Employed in Pink Bus Operations
Currently, 100 Pink Buses are operational across Bihar. To support their functioning, the department plans to train and employ 200 women as drivers and conductors in the coming months.
Road Safety and Enforcement Measures
During the meeting, Minister Kumar also directed officials to accelerate all pending transport-related projects and ensure timely implementation. He stressed the need to reduce road accidents and instructed officials to ensure timely compensation to victims and their families.
The department will soon launch a statewide special enforcement drive to check helmet and seatbelt compliance under road safety awareness initiatives.
State Transport Commissioner Ashutosh Dwivedi, Additional Secretary Praveen Kumar, BSRTC Administrator Atul Kumar Verma, Joint Secretary Krityanand Ranjan, and other senior officials attended the meeting.
This initiative marks a significant step toward creating a more inclusive public transport system while strengthening employment opportunities for women across Bihar.
