Patna: The Bihar Police is undertaking a major initiative to restore and upgrade essential facilities across all police lines in the state. The effort covers 32 older and 18 newly constructed police lines, with 14 critical facilities identified as mandatory for operational efficiency and personnel welfare.
Director General of Police (DGP) Vinay Kumar has directed all Range IGs, DIGs, and district SPs to submit a detailed report on the current status of facilities in their respective police lines. The report must specify which facilities meet the standards and which are lacking, and it is required to be submitted by the end of the month without fail.
According to official sources, the DGP has emphasized that the reports should be submitted to the ADG (Modernization) Sudhanshu Kumar. Based on these reports, the police headquarters will prepare a consolidated review and devise a comprehensive action plan to address deficiencies across all locations. The aim is to ensure that police lines are not only updated but also equipped to meet the evolving needs of law enforcement personnel.
Focus on Old and New Facilities
The newly built 18 police lines already largely conform to the 14 essential facility standards. However, many of the 32 older police lines are lacking in several areas. To address this, authorities have prioritized upgrading these older lines. For instance, recently, a centralized kitchen-cum-dining hall was inaugurated at the Patna Police Line as part of this modernization drive. The project underscores the state’s commitment to improving basic infrastructure and ensuring that all police personnel have access to necessary facilities for training, accommodation, and welfare.
The 14 Mandatory Facilities
The 14 essential facilities required in all police lines include:
- Armory
- Mess and dining hall
- Dry canteen
- Crèche
- Barracks
- Family quarters
- Government property (GP) store
- Recreation room
- Obstacle course/training area
- PT nursery
- Drill nursery
- Synthetic running track
- Mini stadium with playground
- Open gym
These facilities are designed to ensure that police personnel maintain physical fitness, access recreational and family support, and carry out training effectively. The obstacle course, synthetic track, and open gym, in particular, aim to support rigorous physical training and promote overall well-being among officers and constables.
Building a Modern Police Infrastructure
The initiative reflects the state government’s broader vision to modernize police infrastructure, making it more functional and conducive to the welfare of personnel. By focusing on both old and new police lines, Bihar aims to create uniform standards across the state, ensuring that officers have access to the same quality of facilities regardless of location.
The DGP has instructed all districts to prioritize this task and ensure swift action. “It is essential to provide our personnel with all necessary facilities to perform their duties efficiently while maintaining physical fitness and morale,” said a senior police official.
With this comprehensive modernization drive, Bihar Police aims to set a benchmark for functional and well-equipped police lines, supporting both the operational effectiveness of officers and their overall well-being.
