Lucknow: In a significant stride towards self-reliance in defence manufacturing, Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath flagged off the first batch of BrahMos missiles from the newly established BrahMos Integration and Testing Facility Centre in Lucknow on October 18, 2025.
A Leap Towards Indigenous Defence Manufacturing
The state-of-the-art facility, inaugurated by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on May 11, 2025, is a cornerstone of the Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor. Built at a cost of ₹380 crore, the 200-acre centre is poised to produce approximately 100 BrahMos missile systems annually, reinforcing India’s commitment to indigenous defence capabilities.
Strategic Significance and Operational Impact
During the flag-off ceremony, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh highlighted the strategic importance of the BrahMos missile, stating, “Every inch of Pakistan’s territory is now within the reach of BrahMos.”
He further emphasized that Operation Sindoor was a testament to India’s growing defence prowess and a precursor to future capabilities.
Economic and Technological Implications
The establishment of the BrahMos facility in Lucknow is not only a leap in defence manufacturing but also a catalyst for economic growth.
The project is expected to generate a turnover of around ₹3,000 crore in the next financial year, with an anticipated GST collection of approximately ₹500 crore.
