New Delhi: Significant administrative shifts have taken place in India’s civil and security services, involving two senior officers from the Indian Administrative and Police Services.
Delhi Chief Secretary Dharmendra Set to Retire
Dharmendra, a 1989-batch IAS officer from the Union Territories (AGMUT) cadre, is set to retire next month as Chief Secretary of Delhi. Dharmendra was appointed as the Chief Secretary of Delhi in 2024, succeeding Naresh Kumar, and played a central role in managing the complex administrative landscape of the National Capital.
His tenure was marked by efforts to streamline coordination between the elected Delhi government and the Lieutenant Governor’s office, amid ongoing Centre–State governance challenges. Dharmendra’s leadership in facilitating effective governance and ensuring administrative stability will be remembered as a key chapter in Delhi’s bureaucratic history.
His impending retirement has sparked conversations around succession, as the capital prepares for a leadership transition at a critical juncture.

K. M. Mallikarjun Prasanna Appointed IG in NIA
In a strategic move in the domain of national security, K. M. Mallikarjun Prasanna, a 2000-batch IPS officer from the Maharashtra cadre, has been appointed as Inspector General (IG) in the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
The NIA plays a critical role in combating terrorism and organized crime. As IG, Prasanna will take on the responsibility of leading investigations, coordinating with intelligence agencies, and strengthening the agency’s operational efficiency.
Significance of the Developments
These two high-level personnel changes reflect India’s efforts to ensure continuity and efficiency in both governance and internal security. While Dharmendra’s exit will require strong administrative succession planning in Delhi, Prasanna’s entry into the NIA boosts India’s counter-terrorism infrastructure at a crucial time.
