Gandhinagar: Demonstrating the state government’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of the legal community, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel today presented a cheque worth ₹5 crore to the Bar Council of Gujarat. The funds, allocated under the 2025–26 state budget, will be used to support lawyers and their families in times of critical illness or bereavement.
The cheque was formally handed over to J.J. Patel, President of the Bar Council of Gujarat, in the presence of Law Minister Rushikesh Patel, along with key legal and administrative officials.
Annual Provision for Legal Professionals’ Welfare
Every year, the Government of Gujarat earmarks ₹5 crore in the state budget for the Lawyers’ Welfare Fund, operated by the Bar Council. The fund is used to provide financial aid to advocates facing medical emergencies or to support the families of deceased lawyers.
This year’s allocation continues that support, reflecting the administration’s sensitivity toward the health, dignity, and well-being of the legal fraternity, which plays a vital role in upholding justice in society.

Welfare Impact and Outreach
Currently, 52,593 lawyers are registered under the Bar Council of Gujarat’s welfare scheme. Out of these, approximately 3,000 advocates have already benefited from medical assistance provided through the fund. Most recently, ₹37 lakh was disbursed to 27 lawyers in need.
