Coal India to Implement New Dress Code for All Employees, Starting July 2025

According to media reports, the policy will be rolled out soon, with a target implementation date in the first week of July 2025.

New Delhi: In a move aimed at fostering a professional corporate culture and enhancing its brand image, state-run Coal India Ltd (CIL) is set to introduce a new dress code for all its employees, from the Chairman to Directors, officers, and workmen. According to media reports, the policy will be rolled out soon, with a target implementation date in the first week of July 2025.

The Dress Code:

For male employees, the dress code will consist of navy blue pants paired with a sky blue shirt. Female employees will wear a maroon kurta or saree along with a black blouse, or alternatively, a salwar and dupatta.

The dress code’s design and colour palette were finalized by a dedicated committee that met on March 2, 2025, in New Delhi. This committee also took decisions on the quality of fabrics, uniform allowances, and laundry services, according to sources familiar with the development.

Financial Allowances:

To support the uniform initiative, Coal India will provide employees with an annual uniform allowance of Rs 10,500, which can be used to purchase the required clothing from well-known brands. The company has shortlisted several reputable brands for employees to choose from, including Raymond, Ramraj Cotton, Arvind Limited, Louis Philippe, Vardhman, Blackberrys, and Trident India, among others.

Additionally, employees will receive a monthly laundry allowance of Rs 185 for uniform cleaning services.

Next Steps:

The committee responsible for formulating the dress code will meet again on April 7, 2025, in Kolkata. The meeting will focus on finalizing a draft plan for the dress code, which will then be submitted to Coal India’s Board of Directors for approval.

Once approved, the dress code will be implemented across the company, which currently employs 2.28 lakh people as of March 31, 2024.

The initiative comes as Coal India celebrates its 50th anniversary and aims to enhance its corporate image. The company is keen to introduce a corporate culture that emphasizes professionalism, a crucial step in aligning with modern workplace standards and increasing its brand value.

With this new dress code, Coal India looks to reinforce its commitment to professionalism, making a significant mark as it moves into its next phase of growth.
