Bengaluru: In a significant move to strengthen inter-state power collaboration, the Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) has entered into a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) to supply 300 MW of round-the-clock thermal power to Karnataka’s five electricity distribution companies (DISCOMs).
The agreement was formally signed today at the Power Company of Karnataka Limited (PCKL) headquarters in Bengaluru, marking a key milestone in the energy partnership between the eastern power utility and southern India.
Power Supply Details and Source
The 300 MW supply will be sourced from DVC’s upcoming Koderma Thermal Power Station Phase-II project, which comprises two units of 800 MW each. This new power allocation supplements the existing 450 MW of round-the-clock (RTC) power that Karnataka DISCOMs currently receive from DVC.
The Karnataka DISCOMs benefiting under this agreement are:
- Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (BESCOM)
- Hubli Electricity Supply Company (HESCOM)
- Mangalore Electricity Supply Company (MESCOM)
- Gulbarga Electricity Supply Company (GESCOM)
- Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation (CESC)
Officials and Facilitation
The signing ceremony was attended by senior officials from DVC, PCKL, and the five Karnataka DISCOMs. The Ministry of Power, Government of India, played a facilitative role in bringing the two parties together for this crucial collaboration.
Shri Arup Sarkar, Member (Finance), DVC, expressed pride in expanding the partnership with Karnataka, highlighting DVC’s growing capability to deliver reliable and sustainable power beyond its traditional operational regions.

- Raghunathpur Thermal Power Station (RTPS) Phase-II
- Koderma Thermal Power Station (KTPS) Phase-II
With the signing of this PPA, DVC has successfully completed agreements for all three of its upcoming projects, collectively adding 3,720 MW of new generation capacity to India’s power grid.
Significance of the Partnership
This long-term power supply agreement not only enhances Karnataka’s energy security but also exemplifies increasing inter-state cooperation in the power sector. DVC’s expanding footprint in national power generation underlines its role as a key player supporting India’s energy transition and growing demands.
