New Delhi: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has cleared the central deputation of IAS officer Danish Ashraf, appointing him as the Joint Development Commissioner (Director Level) in the Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME).
A 2011-batch officer of the AGMUT cadre, Ashraf has been posted in the Office of the Development Commissioner, Delhi, under the Central Staffing Scheme for a tenure of five years or until further orders, whichever comes earlier.
Appointment Approved by DoPT
According to an Office Memorandum issued by the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT), Ashraf’s appointment follows a recommendation from the Ministry of Home Affairs. The DoPT has instructed that he be relieved from his current duties immediately to assume his new role.
Who Is IAS Danish Ashraf?
IAS Ashraf is known for his active role in governance across different Union Territories and North Indian states. With a strong academic background and a steady rise in public administration, he has served in various influential positions.
Personal and Professional Background
Mr Ashraf, born on February 21, 1987, is a 2011-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer from the AGMUT cadre, with Bihar as his domicile state. Selected through direct recruitment, he began his administrative journey with the Chandigarh Administration in 2013, shortly after completing his IAS training.
Over the years, he has held several key positions, including Deputy Commissioner in the Central Zone of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, where he managed urban governance, sanitation, and public services. In January 2023, Mr Ashraf was appointed as the Special Secretary (Health) in the Government of NCT of Delhi, where he played a pivotal role in shaping health policy and managing public health responses during challenging times.

Education and Family
IAS Ashraf’s strong academic foundation includes an undergraduate degree from Patna College and a Master’s in History from Hansraj College, University of Delhi. His optional subjects in the Civil Services Examination were History and Geography, aligning with his interest in the humanities.
This educational background has informed his broad, people-centric approach to governance. Beyond his professional life, Ashraf’s family has also made meaningful contributions to society. His daughter, Ruhi Danish Ashraf, an electronics engineer, gained recognition for teaching physics to students in Arunachal Pradesh – a unique educational initiative undertaken during his tenure in the region.
