New Delhi: Diptasri Barma Arora (IRS C&IT: 1991) has been promoted to the rank of Chief Commissioner of Customs and Indirect Taxes under the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC). The promotion, effective for the panel year 2024, has been granted notionally from July 1, 2024, aligning her seniority with that of her immediate junior. The promotion will now take effect on an actual basis immediately, and Arora will assume charge in-situ until her regular posting is finalized.

Sources indicate that this elevation to the Higher Administrative Grade (HAG) comes after a prolonged legal dispute regarding her promotion. Officials described the move as a recognition that Arora has finally “got her dues,” marking a culmination of her decades-long service and the resolution of the court-related challenges surrounding her progression to the Chief Commissioner rank.
Her regular posting orders will be issued subsequently, following the approval of the Competent Authority.
