Kolkata: Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL), a key subsidiary of Coal India Limited (CIL), has announced a temporary suspension of SAP ERP services due to the migration of its SAP system from TCL Cloud to the SAP RISE platform. The migration aims to enhance efficiency, scalability, and digital capabilities across Coal India and its subsidiaries.

36-Hour SAP Downtime

As per the official notice, the SAP downtime will begin at 6:00 PM on December 20, 2025, and continue until 6:00 AM on December 22, 2025, spanning a total of 36 hours. During this period, all SAP-dependent operations across ECL and other CIL subsidiaries will be temporarily halted.

The company specifically noted that truck weighment at road weighbridges and generation of GST invoices linked to the SAP system will not be possible during the downtime.

Advisory for Road Sale Consumers

ECL has urged all road sale consumers to plan truck placements in advance and avoid scheduling operations during the SAP downtime to minimize disruptions. The advisory emphasizes that any delays in deliveries or GST invoicing are due to the temporary suspension of the SAP services and stakeholders are requested to cooperate.

The notice has been widely circulated to all concerned officials and departments, and it has been displayed at ECL Headquarters, Area Offices, Road Weighbridges, and Road Sale Depots to ensure broad awareness.

Migration Benefits and Future Operations

The SAP migration to the RISE platform is part of CIL’s ongoing digital transformation initiative, aimed at enhancing operational efficiency, data integration, and cloud capabilities. Once completed, the new platform is expected to streamline operations, improve reporting accuracy, and enable faster decision-making across all subsidiaries.

ECL has expressed appreciation for the understanding and cooperation of its stakeholders and assured that normal operations will resume promptly after the migration is completed.
